- Introduction of the President
Marion said that she was very pleased with the
high quality of the Congress, as well as with the
scientific content and the excellent organization. She
thanked every one who had make it possible, especially
Tamas Szamosi, Peter Cholnoky and Mr Miklosi.
We are very pleased with the excellent relationship
between CESP and APEE which worked together on the suject
of CME in Europe.
This co-operation reinforces the identity of our
Association in its rôle of expert in the education of
paediatrics in Europe, and helps to increase the
attractiveness of our Association to new members
interested and involved in education in paediatrics.
2 - Approval of the minutes of the
General Assembly Meeting of Barcelona.
Nothing further concerning the Barcelona's GAM, except to
congratulate ourselves on the 18 new members.

4 - Election of new Executive

Miranda is leaving the EC and we thank her warmly for all
her work and her enthusiasm in APEE. She is leaving the
EC but remains the "motor" of research in
Greece.
Jean-Louis BERNARD of Marseille (France) has been elected
to succeed.
David HARVEY will be (January 1998) our next treasurer.
Miche PÉCHEVIS who helped us through a difficult
transition period will leave in 1998.
5 - General Secretary's report
Publications : The Journal of
APEE
N° 2, concerning the core curriculum for undergraduates,
was published in June.
N° 3, on the theme : Bioethics in Paediatrics, is in
process. It will be ready in December or January.
A future project of books /monographies of APEE is
proposed.
APEE Internet
: Has been created the 1st of July 1997 in Bordeaux :
http://www.atinternet.com/apee
It will allow exchanges between
every teacher in Paediatrics in Europe.
The
relationship with other Associations : The President and
the General Secretary, as well as differents members of
the other Associations, reinforce the co-operation
between them.
Co-operation with CESP : we are,
Marion and myself, members of the CESP, representative of
APEE. The APEE is recognized as an expert in every work
of the Board and CME in paediatric education.
We have been part of the elaboration of the Chart on CME
in Paediatrics of the CESP. I participated in the CESP's
Congress in Copenhagen. Hermien Zoethout and Juan Brines
presented there the draft of the Task Force for Common
Trunk of Paediatric Training and it received an approval
by the European Board of CESP.
Marion
participated in the SERPA's Congress and the relationship
between SERPA and APEE is excellent.
We can expect future collaborations in the field of CME.
The UNEPSA,
the society gathering together all the national societies
in Paediatrics, is a major association in the
co-ordination of Paediatrics in Europe. The President of
UNEPSA, Pr Armido RUBINO, like his predecessor, honors us
by accepting membership of APEE. We wish to work in close
relationship with UNEPSA, to share the pedagogic
resources provided by the teachers in paediatrics in each
european country and make up a "European Bank of
Education in Paediatrics".
ESSOP and
APEE know each other and share the same point of views
regarding the Basic Paediatric Training. We intend to
organize our next congress with ESSOP in 1998.
Our
relationship with the American Academy of Paediatrics is
loose. However, we have accepted this Association as an
observer member in APEE. It seems very interesting to
share our paediatric knowledge with our neighbour on the
other side of the atlantic. It is with regrets that we
didn't meet Pr Erold Alden who was invited to our
Budapest's Congress, he could not attend for professional
reasons.
As well, we would like to thank
Mrs Florence Walsh for her excellent work as a secretary.
6 - Treasurer's report
Andrea Vania's work has been
difficult this year, but helped by the presence, during
this Congress, of our scottish accountant : Mrs Heather
Lyall.
The account is in balance. End of
1996, we had in our Scottish account about £ 3200 and in
our french account (in Bordeaux) 2000 Frs.
It has been decided to increase
the subscription by £ 5 for the year. So, the individual
subscription will be £ 50 and the corporate membership
of £ 65.
Furthermore, we are going to be
able to pay with a VISA card, which will help everybody
to pay their membership. We have decide to cross off the
members who have not paid subscriptions for two
successive years.
Membership entitles you to receive a free copy of the
Journal of APEE.
7 - The Standing Committees of
APEE
The Standing Committee working on
the Common Trunk of Paediatric Training, led by Hermien
Zoethout, presented their work at the General Assembly.
This work will be very useful for all the teachers in
Paediatrics in Europe.
The General Assembly asked this
standing committee to publish their work in the European
Journal of Paediatrics. When this standing committee has
finished this work, other tasks are waiting for them...
The Standing
Committee on Bioethics in Paediatrics, led by Lincoln
Justo Da Silva, must work very hard this year (this topic
is an extension of our thoughts in Barcelona) in order to
present a report from APEE on this subject, during the
CESP's meeting .
Dr Igor Galpérine has decided to
add his strength, and others are welcome. In that case
they should contact Lincoln to be part of that standing
committee.
The Standing
Committee on teaching social and community paediatrics
for the common trunk of the paediatrician has been
created during this Congress. It is a mixed commission
ESSOP-APEE made of 4 members of ESSOP (led by Nick
Spencer) and 4 members of APEE (led by Michel Péchevis
with Michel Manciaux as advisor).
The task of this standing
committee is to present the result of our thoughts at the
next meeting of the CESP.
All those Standing Committes will
meet the 29th and the 30th of January 1998 in London
during our next EC meeting. Then in Bordeaux, the 8th of
September 1998 before the joint meeting ESSOP-APEE.
8 - Next Congress : in Bordeaux :
9 - 10 - 11 of September 1998
Come as many as you can ! Pr Boris Sandler, and myself,
will be very attentive to organize your stay in very good
conditions : Good food, good wines !
But seriously, we are sorry to tell you that you will
have to work hard on that topic because it is crucial for
the Education in Paediatrics.
We decided that the topic of this joint congress
ESSOP-APEE will be "Teaching social and community
paediatrics in the 21st century".
