Mark-up Principle

The remote TAG technology

AT Internet uses the TAG mark up technology. The tag, a JavaScript code requiring a few lines, is to be inserted on each of the pages to be audited. This method enables you to integrate the markers on a server different from the one which host your website.

  1. A web user's browser requests a page on the client site.
  2. The client site responds with an HTML page containing the XiTi marker code.
  3. The user's browser sends a message as it executes the XiTi marker code.
  4. An image measuring 1 pixel x 1 pixel and taking up 22 bytes is sent back to the user's browser.

Finally, only few highly-evolved markers, such as XiTi's, give more information than LOG files. For example: screen size, user's local time...
For more detailed information, we have put together a table comparing marker and LOG technologies

A small marker

Unlike most measuring services on the market, XiTi's marker (section of HTML/JavaScript code to be inserted into each page of the site) is extremely small (in paid-for versions the XiTi marker only takes up 22 bytes, while the free version is 460 bytes). Its "source" code is also very small. It consists of about a dozen lines of JavaScript, plus three lines for browsers that do not accept JavaScript.
How does XiTi manage to use such a small marker? Quite simply, by carrying out only a few operations in the marker code. This means that web users' browsers have less work to do, and pages load more quickly.

A durable, evolving marker

This method gives the XiTi marker a considerable advantage: its durability. The XiTi marker has not changed at all for over 3 years, while continuing to provide an unequalled level of subsequent analysis and constant innovations (on average, one new feature per month).
For the user, the benefit is considerable:

  • There is no need to change a site's mark-up to benefit from developments in our products.
  • XiTi's advances do not require the site to be re-tagged.

This expertise, exclusive to XiTi, is a key factor for website managers, who do not want to keep having to revise the mark-up of their sites. The configuration means that XiTi carries out more calculations subsequently, but these operations use our own IT resources and do not penalise your technical staff or your users.

We take charge of all the data processing; you gain in flexibility and efficiency, and your users gain in speed.

A stable, powerful system

The use of insufficiently powerful marker-based systems can present a major disadvantage: loading the marker can slow down the loading of the web page from the site being audited. XiTi's response is as follows:

  • over 15 billion pages audited per month,
  • 330,000 sites registered,
  • the websites of the largest media groups and other big names trust our technology (Le Monde, Radio France, RTL, 01 Net, L'Express, Total, Crédit Agricole, Air France, Leclerc, Aventis, Saint Gobain, Mercedes...)
  • 29 ms: the average response time of the XiTi collectors
  • 99,98%: the availability of the XiTi service in 2006
  • a unique, dedicated technical architecture: clean room, electricity generator, built-in redundancy for data collection and processing equipment, four dedicated lines (France Télécom, Verizon Business, 9 Telecom, Cogent) offering a transfer rate of 120 Mbps.
