A cookie is a small text file placed on a computer’s hard drive by the server of the website being visited. The cookie contains several data components:
- The name of the server that placed it ;
- A non-nominative identifier, in the form of a unique ID number ;
- An expiration date.
This information is sometimes stored on your computer in a simple text file, which the servers can access in order to read and save data.
Cookies enable the collection and storage of web navigation data occurring on the device in question. There are two types of cookies: first-party cookies, and third-party cookies.
